Entropic & Redundant features of music videos

The redundant and entropic features of a selected music video – Jon Lajoie WTF Collective 2

·      Both predictable and unpredictable representation of rappers.  For example, the likes of “MC Confusing” wear typical rapper-style clothing.  However, other MC’s such as “MC Historical inaccuracy” have a smarter look.  This smarter look is predictable of academic men.  This adds a comic element to the video.

·      Redundant- Predictable in terms of set.  Streets of working class, rough areas.
·      Redundant in terms of video structure, the lyrics begin within the first few seconds of the video.  There isn’t a strong storyline, like most rap music videos.
·      Redundant- The camera angles are predictable in terms of a rap video- a wide and random variety of them.
·      Redundant- In terms of editing, a lot of straight cuts, quite fast.

Jon Lajoie- Everyday Normal Guy

·

·      Redundant- Predictable costume- typical of the genre being portrayed, Setting is stereotypical of music genre- deprived, working class areas
·      Entropic in terms of structure- cuts to a random clip of him complaining about his back half-way through.
·      Again, predictable in terms of lyrics starting position, within the first few seconds of the video.

Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent
·      Entopic; set, costumes, no performance based scenes or artists featured, some dialogue shows up on screen backing storyline and meaning

·      Redundancy;
·      Lyrics start/stop point is predictable of the majority of pop/rock music videos, start music/lyrics within the first few seconds, end music/lyrics at the end of the video.
·      Bit of a storyline/meaning to the music video, typical of pop/rock genres.

The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony

·      Entropic;
·      Video action- just one of the artists walking down a long street with no change in camera angle.
·      There isn’t much in the way of lyrics, making this video unpredictable- main focus is on the video and the music- which is adapted from a classic piece.
·      Redundancy;
·      Like most music videos it questions or carries a message- this video questions life “What’s the point?”
·      In terms of setting, it is fairly predictable of the type of artists that they are.  Rock/pop band- typical use of working class areas.

Hello fellow bloggers!

My name is Jack Purkis and this is my new blog for A2 Media.  I shall keep you all updated with the progress of my coursework, which involves creating promotional materials for the release of a new album.  The materials include a music video, a digi-pack and a double-sided magazine article.

We have emailed our selected artist - George Barnett - asking for permission to use his song 'Sierra Planes', and I am pleased to say he has given us permission.
